1. Choose the right occupation.
Ask yourself the question: "Will I be ready to do this all day, every day, for many years?" before you pick a career. And, make sure that you have researched carefully about the occupation you are considering. Do you know everything about job duties, qualifications, earnings or employment outlook? Is it really matched for your personality, interests, aptitudes and work-related values. Learn as much as possible about yourself by conducting a complete self-assessment, please!
2. Define Your Own Success
Career success, to you, means the size of your paycheck or your power at work or just your happy feeling when you put in your whole day at work then come home spending time with your family? Ask yourself, again and find your core value to make it real. Finding what makes you satisfied in your career will help you get over issues and meet your own goals.
3. Ask for help in case you need
You are not Mr/Ms "know everything". There are always people with more experience as well as knowledge than you. In spite of trying to get to know everything, ask your colleagues for help. Keep your time and spend it in establishing meaningful relationship and building a great network. Find a good mentor for yourself and become a wonderful mentee, please!
4. Acknowledge people who help you
It will be genuinely a significant gesture when you acknowledge the ones who offer assistance. Whether someone gives you five minutes of their time or introduces you to a potential employer, it's important to let them know that it meant something to you. And, don't forget to return a favor when they or someone else needs help, please!
5. Own Your Mistakes
No matter how you are good, you still make mistakes sometime. It would be great if you try all your best to avoid it but mistakes happen despite your best efforts. Don't run away or hide, please! Admit your error and find the way to fix it, or at least take an action to resolve. That will make you better than you thought.
6. Be nice to yourself
Root for yourself. If you aren't your own biggest fan, who will be? Take note of and pride in all your successes and positive attributes. Don't wait for someone else to tell you "Good job" "well done!" Reflecting on your achievements will spur you on to accomplish even greater ones.
7. Don't Beat Yourself Up
Sometime you will tend to be affected by a little voice inside your head, which whisper that you are silly/bad/dummy...Unfortunately, some people will take this disadvantage to knock you down. Don't do it to yourself & neither let anyone do. If you make a mistake, fix it! If you miss a skill, improve yourself. Keep calm & Carry on!
8. Don't get in stuck by yourself
No matter how careful you are about choosing the "right" career or job, you still want to move or change sometime. You will probably be able to come up with a bunch of reasons not to do it but consider it anyway. Think about this sentence: "If you don't like where you are, move. You are not a tree."
9. Keep the Positive Attitude
Some people see only the negative side of things and always find something about which to complain. Don't be on of them. You will bring yourself and your fellows down. A positive will keep up your energy. Don't ignore problems, but instead of just complaining, look for ways to fix them.
10. Listen first, talk later
When you listen, you will learn alot, otherwise, you will miss many things. Whether your boss is explaining a project to you or telling you about his weekend, it's important to understand what he is saying. Careful listening will prevent misunderstanding and help you build rapport with others.
Hope these tips can help you something in your career!
